Celebrate the month non-GMO

October 2010 is our first (and hopefully annual) non-GMO month, an event that presents and celebrates the seal "non-GMO project checked" certification program, a first-of-its-kind that fully supports the Whole Foods Market. The appearance of this seal represents an important milestone in the course of many years of hard work for those of us in natural and organic industry.

I wrote about the non-GMO project on this blog once before, when we announced our strong support of the initiative and his seal. Now I'm extremely happy to announce that the Royal seal is about the actual product aisles many of our stores!

Several years ago, during the development of a standard non-GMO for our private label products, we learned about a small group of retailers, cooperatives and food manufacturers who were doing exactly the same thing that we were.Called themselves "The Non-GMO Project", and that joined their effort because we knew that our goal – preserving the availability of non-GMO food in North America – would have a much better chance of success if we all work together. The non-GMO project, working with industry leaders and technical experts, developed the first third-party certification program for products that would prevent the intentional use of GMOS, which governs the segregation and practices along with test protocols and manufacturing documentation. Manufacturers who make use of the seal must prove that they are doing everything they can to keep GMOS off their products.

We know that a large number of our buyers want to avoid GMOS, for a variety of reasons, and we believe strongly in the provision of clear and transparent labeling for products that avoid GMOS; The non-GMO project is essential to our success in this effort, because it provides a common language for the entire supply Chain – from seed producers to retailers – to use in check and identify the products of non-GMO foods. This standard strong give great seal integrity and empowers producers, food manufacturers, retailers and shoppers to make informed decisions based on reliable information and verified. stamp is the first of its kind — the seal best of its kind — and we want to help make it into a powerful emblem for products whose makers truly has verified that do everything possible to avoid GMOS.

Unfortunately, due to derives from pollen in field and cross-contamination, there is practically no such thing as a completely free of GMOS.However, the patterns of Non-GMO Project defining limits and prescribe practices to ensure that the products are made without any intentional use of GMOS, and they follow a clear set of best practices to prevent cross-contamination.

In 2009, Whole Foods Market announce we entered our entire private label – all our storage brand products sold under the labels of each day and Whole Foods Market 365 – no verification programme. You may have noticed that several varieties of our corn tortilla chips already have the seal non-GMO project checked. Now, we're celebrating the next batch of our branded products and products of our vendor partners to earn the seal. for a complete list of our products and those of other manufacturers of food, visit the website of the non-GMO project. stop by your local store to verify these products and if you don't see your favorite food manufacturer in the list, let them know that you would like to see their products verified by non-GMO project.
